Humane Education and Community Outreach Coordinator

The Animal Rescue League, located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is seeking a full-time humane educator and community outreach coordinator to oversee its educational and outreach programs.
Essential Duties/Functions include:
- Develop and deliver presentations to schools, youth groups and community organizations and coordinate humane education outreach efforts. Enhance and maintain on-going relationships through lesson plans, newsletters, updates on shelter activities and special projects. Acts as a guide to groups touring the facility.
- Research, develop and update programs to educate the community about humane animal care and animal welfare issues for both companion and wild animals assuring that the presentations are in accordance with the Animal Rescue League’s mission and philosophy and meet Pennsylvania Education Standards.
- Develop and implement special programs such as teacher in-service trainings, and workshops as appropriate. Seek out and create materials to serve as teaching aids.
- Develop, implement, promote and maintain day/week camps for young children during school breaks.
Minimum Qualifications include:
- Bachelor’s degree in education or related field.
- Skill in lesson planning and presentation.
- Program development knowledge including curriculum development and research methods.
- Skill in identifying new program ideas and developing ideas into lessons.
- Demonstrated interpersonal relationship skills to include building alliances with schools, community organizations and corporations.
- Excellent public relation skills, strong written and oral communication skills.
Program Director at Animal Sanctuary

Catskill Animal Sanctuary, located in Saugerties, New York, is seeking a Program Director to develop and oversee its entire Educational Program.
Job responsibilities include:
- Develop and oversee CAS Educational Programs, including but not limited to vegan cooking, organic gardening, health and wellness, and children’s programming
- Solicit grants with which to support various programming initiatives
- Effectively manage program budget, actively seeking pro-bono services and donated materials whenever possible
- Hire and effectively manage a dynamic program staff in order to ensure effective delivery of program services
Job requirements include:
- Demonstrated interest in CAS’s mission and vision
- Familiarity with food production issues and their relationship to animal rights, human health, and sustainability
- BA degree in relevant field: public administration, public policy, education, non-profit studies, etc.
- Minimum three years’ experience developing/managing non-profit programs. Demonstrated ability to balance the visionary work of program creation and development with the day-to-day management of programs and staff

Education Program Director

The Greater Good Science Center, in Berkeley, California, is seeking a full-time Education Program Director, who will "design, conduct, promote, and support various Greater Good Science Center educational programs in conjunction with partner organizations. More specifically, the program director will: translate and report on the science of social and emotional learning in Greater Good, the GGSC’s online magazine; represent the GGSC in the media and at events, such as professional workshops and public speaking engagements; develop educational materials that translate the science of well being into concrete educational tools and practices,-including science based lesson plans and curricula, independently and in conjunction with partner organizations."
Job Qualifications Include:
- Must have extremely effective writing skills in order to translate scientific material for non-academics and make educational issues accessible to non-specialists.
- Must have extremely strong speaking and interpersonal communication skills and presentation skills in order to lead workshops, speak about education issues related to GGSC themes, and to forge effective partnerships with like-minded organizations. Experience in other training environments preferred.
- Deep knowledge of education landscape, including various programs, players, best practices, and trends in contemporary research and practice, particularly those related to social and emotional learning (SEL).
- Thorough knowledge of and skill in delivering programs. Familiarity with scientific research and ability to understand scientific studies required.
- Thorough knowledge of current public educational programs and trends.
Humane Education Intern

The National Museum of Animals and Society is seeking a Humane Education Intern. The intern's primary responsibilities include "researching and drafting educational text geared towards children for the Museum website, including biographies; generating downloadable and/or printable resources for kids, caretakers and teachers; assisting with humane education programming; providing general programming support; other projects and duties as assigned."
Requirements:
- Strong interest in history and human-animal studies
- Ability to think and write engagingly for a young audience
- Past humane education experience or work experience with children is a plus
- Excellent attention to detail, organization, writing, and verbal skills
- Well versed in Microsoft Office software applications
- Ability to work independently
- Self-motivated essential
- An artistic background (photography, graphic design, illustration) is beneficial, but not required
Schedule is flexible and the intern will work remotely. This is an unpaid position.
