Residency 2008
Twenty-three M.Ed. and HECP students from the U.S., Canada and Germany gathered together July 7-11, 2008 to share, explore, learn and bond at our 2008 Residency in Surry, Maine.

Strangers on Monday; fast friends and colleagues by Friday.
IHE Faculty member and Humane Educator Melissa Feldman discusses issues of advertising with students.
During one student presentation, students have to analyze the positive and negative impacts of their clothing choices.
Students learn about the many ways humane education can be manifested, such as in brainstorming humane fundraising ideas for non-profits.
For her presentation, one student uses a "nature adventure", which combines inspiring a respect for nature with learning about scientific concepts.

Part of Residency involves students working in teams to develop humane education lesson plans for all types of audiences.
In this student-led activity, students explore concepts of the fallacy of "us and them" and how to maintain compassion, respect and understanding during times of potential conflict.
Students and faculty get to be kids again during a student-led scavenger hunt activity focused on building reverence.
Participating in the Wonder Walk can reveal bountiful surprises.
Sophia celebrates having successfully found her tree, using senses other than sight.

In addition to learning and sharing, students get a chance to bond with their fellow classmates.

Residency isn't just about learning. Students get plenty of time to enjoy the beauty of Down East Maine, which is very close to Acadia National Park.
