Residency 2008


 

Twenty-three M.Ed. and HECP students from the U.S., Canada and Germany gathered together July 7-11, 2008 to share, explore, learn and bond at our 2008 Residency in Surry, Maine.

Melissa leads an activity on advertising.IHE Faculty member and Humane Educator Melissa Feldman discusses issues of advertising with students.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 
Students analyze the impact of their clothing choices.During one student presentation, students have to analyze the positive and negative impacts of their clothing choices.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Students brainstorm ideas for making fundraising more humane. Students learn about the many ways humane education can be manifested, such as in brainstorming humane fundraising ideas for non-profits.

 

 

 

 

 

Students participate in a natural science activity.For her presentation, one student uses a "nature adventure", which combines inspiring a respect for nature with learning about scientific concepts.

 

 

 

 

 

 Students work together to develop lesson plans.
Part of Residency involves students working in teams to develop  humane education lesson plans for all types of audiences.

 

 

 

 

 

The whiteboard shows the results of a brainstorm on "us and them." In this student-led activity, students explore concepts of the fallacy of "us and them" and how to maintain compassion, respect and understanding during times of potential conflict.

 

 

 

 

Students & faculty go on a scavenger hunt.Students and faculty get to be kids again during a student-led scavenger hunt activity focused on building reverence.

Happy IHE students grow closer as the week progresses.

Residency isn't just about learning. Students get plenty of time to enjoy the beauty of Down East Maine, which is very close to Acadia National Park.
